The WBDC is dedicated to the economic empowerment of women, but its services are open to all individuals.

In facilitating the relationship between corporations, government and women-owned business, the WBDC provides growth through marketing, procurement and a certification assistance council.

In a June press releaseStaci Bender Epstein, Be Group president and CEO, remarked, “I am thrilled to be officially certified as a Women-Owned Business Enterprise. It is important to support other women-owned businesses, and I look forward to connecting with many companies as a result of the WBENC certification.”

A video from PBS in 2013, hosted by Bonnie Erbé, along with WBENC President and CEO Pamela Prince-Eason explains why becoming certified is an asset to a women-owned business. Being certified allows women-owned companies to bid on larger contracts and work with the federal government.

According to the video, in 1994, former President Bill Clinton set a goal that government contracts are to be awarded to 5% of women-owned businesses. In 2013, that goal was at 4%. The WBENC has been helping to certify women-owned companies to help meet former President Clinton’s goal.
